Luthier Jamie Boss is building six varieties of classic acoustic guitar styles. Made by hand in his workshop, the guitars are crafted by Jamie's experienced hands that have restored, repaired, and built literally thousands of acoustic stringed instruments.

40 hour Basic Steel String Guitar Building Class

This class consists of 2.5 hour classes, one night-a-week for 16 weeks. Each student receives an all-solid wood guitar kit, various DVDs on guitar building, a building manual and 40 hours of training by instructor and luthier Jamie Boss. All wood building materials and tools are provided, finishing included if time allows. No previous experience required. You'll build an all-solid wood guitar that you can be proud to play. Tuition $1,695.00

40 hour Basic Classical Guitar Building Class

This class consists of 2.5 hour classes, one night-a-week for 16 weeks, and is designed to mirror building methods of traditional Spanish builders. The traditional process of building the guitar on a Spanish style assembly board is followed and each student can experience first hand how the masters in Spain constructed a guitar. Each student receives various DVDs on guitar building. All wood building materials and tools are provided, finishing included if time allows. Tuition: $1,895.00

90 hour Master Guitar Building Class

This class consists of 6 hour daily classes during 15 days of training, held only twice a year. Previous woodworking experience or previous 40 hour guitar building class required. All materials and tools are provided, except tuners. The student will build an all-solid wood, totally hand-made guitar that will rival factory-built instruments that cost many thousands of dollars. Class size is limited to four students on a first come-first served basis. Tuition: $3,695.00 (Not including room and board)

This two DVD set runs over 2 hours and is made for gypsy jazz guitarists and luthiers who want to learn how to properly set-up a gypsy jazz guitar. The video addresses many of the guitar's weak points and is perfect for the gypsy jazz guitarist that wants to get the most out of his guitar. All avenues of improving the playability and sound are covered.

Replacing the Vintage Guitar Fretboard Video

A three hour, two DVD set on replacing the vintage guitar fretboard. The entire process of building and replacing a vintage fretboard is shown on a vintage 1940's Gibson L-00 guitar. Filmed at Hot Strings Guitar's school and workshop in Milford, Connecticut, luthier and instructor Jamie Boss explains the process and tools required in a step-by-step manner.

Guitar Finishing With Water-based Lacquer Video

A three hour, two DVD set made for first time guitar finishers using water-based nitrocellulose lacquer. This DVD set will show you how it is possible to achieve a great finish in your home workshop. Basic finishing skills and knowledge are required. Easy to use, much safer than solvent based nitrocellulose lacquer, water-based lacquer cleans up with soap and water.

Carving the Classical Guitar Neck with Jamie Boss Video

Two DVD set showing how to carve the Classical Guitar neck from scratch using basic hand-tools and a bandsaw. I include a set of free classical strings as a gift. Filmed at Hot Strings Guitar Shop in Milford, Connecticut, he starts with a plank of mahogany and ends up with a finished classical guitar neck. The DVD makes a great reference for experienced luthiers or beginners.

Replacing the Guitar Truss Rod Video

A single DVD to instruct you how it is possible to replace a broken truss rod in your home workshop. Basic carpentry skills and knowledge are required. The DVD covers removal of the fretboard, replacing the truss rod and regluing of the fretboard. Filmed at my guitar building school in Milford, Connecticut, the entire process is broken down into individual steps.

A 35 minute guitar building DVD applicable to both steel string and classical acoustic guitars, this video provides a comprehensive and step-by-step overview of how to install, level, crown and polish fret wire. Installing an Under-the-saddle Guitar Pickup

A 45 minute DVD highlighting the theory and operation of the piezo type pick-up and showing an actual installation of a Fishman pick-up and an L.R. Baggs pick-up on two Taylor guitars. The installation is very easy and a minimum of tools are required.
