Guitar Building Class
40 hour Basic Steel String
This course is designed for students who work during the day and have a limited amount of time during the week. We use Stewart-McDonald kits in this class as building a guitar from scratch takes a full 80 hours and this class is only 40 hours. The sides are bent, the neck is roughed-out and the top has the soundhole cut out. Each student will be assembling and finishing the construction by hand and we emphasize the proper use of hand tools during the class. Specialized tools are kept to a minimum to demonstrate how a guitar can really be built in a home workshop. We have used the Stewart-McDonald kits for quite some time and have found them to be exceptional. The kit included in the class has a solid mahogany back and sides. The student can choose a rosewood back and sides for an additional $80.00.
This class consists of 2.5 hour classes, one night-a-week for 16 weeks. No previous experience is required. All wood building materials and tools are provided. The cost of tuners is additional. The student will build an all solid wood guitar choosing from a dreadnaught, triple-0 or classical styles. Each student will receive an all-solid wood guitar kit, various DVDs on guitar building, a comprehensive building manual and 40 hours of training by instructor and luthier Jamie Boss. Class size is limited to four students on a first come-first served basis. At the conclusion of the course the student will have an all-solid wood guitar that he or she can be proud to play. Finishing included if time allows.
