Guitar Building Class
40 hour Basic Classical
I designed this course to mirror the building methods of traditional Spanish builders. The course uses an all solid wood kit from Luthiers Mercantile International that comes with the neck roughed out, sides bent and sound hole cut out. The traditional process of building the guitar on a Spanish style assembly board is followed and each student can experience first hand how the masters in Spain constructed a guitar. There are very few processes that require power tools and the traditional use of hand tools is emphasized and taught. The basic kit included in the class has a mahogany back and sides and a spruce or cedar top. Rosewood sides and back can be substituted for an additional $80.00.
This class consists of 2.5 hour classes, one night-a-week for 16 weeks. No previous experience is required. All wood building materials and tools are provided. The student will build an all solid wood guitar choosing from a dreadnaught, triple-0 or classical styles. Each student will receive an all-solid wood guitar kit, various DVDs on guitar building, a comprehensive building manual and 40 hours of training by instructor and luthier Jamie Boss. Class size is limited to four students on a first come-first served basis. At the conclusion of the course the student will have an all-solid wood guitar that he or she can be proud to play. Finishing included if time allows.
